Day Four After Chemo

Being home is very nice even the 101 looked beautiful on the way home. The chemo has been kicking my butt the last few days and on top of that I have had pretty bad indigestion. I know that this is just something I have to go through. It is incredible how weak chemo makes your body. Normal activities take a lot of effort and frequent stops for rests are very necessary. All in all, every day is a bit better. I continue to get incredible support from my family and my friends. This blog thing is weird but every time I don't make an entry I get my butt chewed. So I will try to put a little something in every couple of days. It took alot of energy just to water a tree today. Again, I appreciate all your thoughts, prayers and support. I'll be back before you know it.

Rod

  1. Good to hear your home and that you got out in the fresh air. Had to be tough to be inside that long. Don't over do it. Sit in a chair and direct.

Hey we are just across the street so if you need help with ANYTHING, just give us a call. One or both of us will be there.

  2. Rod, it is so good that you are home. Home is that comfortable and safe feeling that will be with you while you get your strength back. You need to rest and take care of yourself. We have been following your progress and are so excited with the news. Remember, one day at a time. Your body needs to heal and repair. Sorry...pesky nurses always giving advice! Give Julie and Madelyn a hug for us. I bet she is so happy to have dad back at home. As you know hugs are therapeutic! Soooo looking forward to seeing you soon. Please if you need anything we are always here for you guys. And we continue to pray and send positive thoughts your way. Love, the McAninch Family

  4. Hi Rod!

So glad you're in the comforts of your own home. I'm sure Julie and Maddy-Boo are happy to have you there, too. Way to hang in there. We just want you to know we're thinking about you.

We've been meaning to touch base with you and Julie the past couple days, but Cannon broke his arm Saturday (upper humerous, just below the growth plate) and Cooper was in his first car accident the week before...eeeeks! Cannon goes to the ortho in SB tomorrow. Cooper's situation looks like it will be resolved in a favorable manner...(other kid was on a cell phone.)

We're thinking about you every day with hopes that chemo eases up on you.

    Talk to you soon~

    Tami, Jim, Cooper and Cannon

  5. So glad to hear you are home and in good spirits. My husband and I think of you often, and are eternally grateful for all you did for us helping to bring our beautiful little boy Griffin into this world (OK, so he wasn't so little). Listen, we really want you back at work, but more than that we want you whole and well. Take care of your self.

    Love,
    The Davies Family

  6. Hello Rod, Julie and Madelyn,

So glad to hear you are home. Julie, if you have to super glue him to the couch it is fine by me. Rod do not over do it. I got orders straight from the Postmaster General that you are to take it easy. If not your mail will be cut off. ( not sure what that means but it can't be good).
We miss you guys and are keeping you in our prayers. I will come keep you company when you go for treatment in our lovely town of Solvang. Wear your clogs.
    love ya Lori and Colin

  7. Dr. Huss,
So glad you are home. I was out of town for a few days so I missed not hearing about your progress. I am very glad you are home now. Sad to hear your chemo has taken you down a notch. Hang in there, get your rest, keep your strength. You are going to make it through this and will be bee boppin' down the hallways and on the track before long. I am glad you like the corny stories. I think I am behind a few days. I will try to catch up. Here is another one: A couple in their eighties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically OK, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man got up from his chair and said, "Do you want anything fron the kitchen?" The wife said, "Will you get me a bowl of ice cream." OK the old man says. The old woman says "Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it." Her husband said, "No, I can remember it."
Well she said, "I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so's not to forget it."
He says, "I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."
She says, I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down."
Irratated, he says, "I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! You want ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sakes!"
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes later, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of ham and eggs.
She stares at the plate for a moment, and says, "Where's my toast?"
It is funnier hearing my dad recite it.
Take care, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family each day.
Julie, sorry I missed you the other day. Hopefully next time.
    Lots of Love,
    Janet
